For faster assembly I think these would work well as a long roll - like making pictures in hard candy. Roll out long logs of each colour, assemble into one giant roll and then slice thinly across it to reveal cookies with the football design.

Yep. I only know those cookies as slice and baker or freezer box cookies (IDK where that second term originates from) but the three dimensional pattern adds to allure here....
